The PuzzlePicturePaintings of the KaHouse Artist Duo Lothar Krebs and GAX Axel Gundlach, who appear as an artist duo under the name KrAX, are the results of
a special process. In the beginning the two artists are sketching the basic motive, the structure of the painting and a thematic symbolism being transferred with black paint only onto the
fabric.
Afterwards the many single segments are designed by the participants of the art happening using a preset of strong colours but without knowing the motive of
the complete picture or even having the feeling that all parts could fit a giant painting at the end.
Thus all the canvasses are treated like a single picture and are designed with various stiles in a spontaneous act by the participants of the art happening. That‘s how the later artwork receives
its typical Patchwork-like style.
Within the last one and a half decade the artists who work together for nearly twenty five years now have created about two hundred of these Team Art Works like Sculptures, Mosaiques and PuzzlePicturePaintings, the biggest having a size of 30 x 12 metres, painted with 1800 participants within one hour only.
“It‘s kind of a democratisation of art” the two experimental artists say: ”having the canvasses painted by hundreds of co-artists we give away
the artistic control that normally defines the style of a painting artist; We don’t decide over the the way of drawing, the use of colours and the way of applying. It’s a game with chance and
chaos creating gigantic pictures that would never be painted by a single artist.
With the composition of all single canvasses to the big picture we add the dramatic element. Once we drop the curtain and show the final result of the
teamwork we always experience an exciting emotion that can only be created by the common feeling of all participants.
The variety and the intensity of these group emotions is a real thrill, the most wonderful effect of our PuzzlePicturePaintings: they make people
incredibly happy!"
